New Pool & Resurfacing Startup Service
A brand-new or freshly resurfaced pool needs different care during startup than an established pool. Turtle Pool Care manages brushing, water chemistry, filtration and the transition into normal maintenance based on the finish, fill water, equipment and project requirements.
Serving Westlake, Avenir, Wellington, Loxahatchee & The Acreage, Royal Palm Beach, Greenacres, The Club at Ibis.
Why startup care matters
A fresh plaster, quartz or pebble surface continues interacting with the pool water after the pool is filled. During startup, brushing, filtration and careful chemistry management help control plaster dust and reduce the risk of scaling, staining, roughness and uneven surface appearance.
This is not the same as maintaining an established pool. New and freshly resurfaced pools can change quickly, and the startup plan should match the actual finish, fill water and project requirements.
Startup isn't only for brand-new pools
A freshly resurfaced pool also needs startup care. The shell and equipment may be years old, but a new plaster, quartz or pebble interior begins with a fresh surface that needs the appropriate startup process.
- New construction pool
- Replastered pool
- Quartz resurfacing
- Pebble resurfacing
- Other fresh cementitious pool finishes
How Turtle Pool Care handles startup
- 1
Confirm the finish and applicable instructions
We identify the pool finish and review any startup requirements supplied by the builder, resurfacing contractor or finish manufacturer.
- 2
Test the fill water and initial chemistry
The source water becomes the starting point for the startup chemistry, so we evaluate the actual water rather than assuming every fill starts the same.
- 3
Begin brushing and manage startup dust
Fresh cementitious finishes can release plaster dust during startup. Appropriate brushing helps move that material into circulation so it can be filtered rather than remaining on the surface.
- 4
Manage water chemistry as the surface changes
A fresh finish can change the pool water during startup. We monitor and adjust the chemistry based on the actual readings and startup requirements.
- 5
Monitor cartridge filtration
Startup material can load a cartridge filter more quickly than normal weekly service, so filter pressure and cartridge condition are monitored during the process.
- 6
Introduce equipment and features at the appropriate time
Salt, salt-chlorine generation, heating, automatic cleaners and other systems are introduced according to the applicable startup plan rather than one generic calendar.
- 7
Transition into normal weekly maintenance
Once startup requirements are complete, the pool can transition into normal weekly service and long-term water management.
We can work with your builder — or take over completely
Startup responsibility varies from one project to another. Some builders or resurfacing contractors handle the first stage themselves, while others turn the pool over immediately.
Full startup from the beginning
Turtle Pool Care can handle the startup from the initial fill when the builder or resurfacer turns the pool over immediately.
Take over after the builder's initial startup
If the builder handles the first stage, Turtle can take over at the appropriate handoff point and continue the startup process.
Follow builder or finish-manufacturer instructions
When a builder, resurfacing contractor or finish manufacturer provides startup requirements, Turtle can follow those instructions as part of the service.
Use Turtle's own startup process when appropriate
When no separate project-specific startup procedure governs the job, Turtle Pool Care can manage startup using its own process adjusted for the finish, source water, equipment and actual pool conditions.
The goal is not to force every new surface through the same generic schedule.
How long does startup take?
There is no single startup timeline that applies to every pool.
The appropriate schedule depends on factors such as the finish, builder or manufacturer instructions, water chemistry, source water, filtration, equipment and how the surface is responding.
Turtle Pool Care follows the startup plan appropriate to the individual project rather than promising an arbitrary number of days.
What should a new pool owner avoid during startup?
During startup, do not assume every pool is immediately ready for normal operation.
Possible restrictions may include waiting before:
- Adding salt
- Enabling the salt chlorine generator
- Using heat
- Using a robotic or automatic pool cleaner
- Making large chemistry changes independently
- Treating the pool like an established weekly-maintenance pool
Turtle Pool Care will tell you when those steps are appropriate for the particular finish and startup plan. Let us know promptly if you notice unusual discoloration, rough areas or other unexpected surface changes during startup.
The fill water matters
Startup chemistry begins with whatever water is used to fill the pool.
Municipal water, well water and other source-water conditions can start with different mineral, metal and balance characteristics.
Some properties using private wells may introduce iron, calcium or other minerals that need to be considered during startup.
That is another reason startup should be based on actual testing rather than a generic chemical recipe.
What is the white dust in a new pool?
Fresh cementitious pool finishes can release fine material commonly referred to as plaster dust during startup.
Appropriate brushing moves that material into circulation so the cartridge filter can capture it.
Because startup dust can load the filter quickly, filter pressure and cartridge condition may need closer attention than during normal weekly maintenance.
Starting a new saltwater pool
A pool that will ultimately operate with a salt chlorine generator still needs conventional chemistry management during startup.
Salt and the salt system should be introduced at the appropriate point for the particular finish, builder/manufacturer requirements and startup plan.
When can the heater be used?
Heating decisions during startup depend on the finish and the applicable startup instructions.
Turtle Pool Care does not use one universal heater-on date for every new or resurfaced pool.
When can I use a robotic or automatic cleaner?
A fresh pool surface may have startup restrictions on automatic cleaners or robots.
The correct timing depends on the finish and startup instructions, so Turtle Pool Care advises the customer when the equipment can be introduced.
New pool startup in Westlake and Avenir
Westlake and Avenir are important startup markets for Turtle Pool Care because both include substantial newer residential development and ongoing pool construction.
Turtle Pool Care can coordinate startup care with homeowners, builders and resurfacing contractors in these communities and transition the pool into normal weekly maintenance afterward.
Resurfacing startup in established communities
Startup care is equally relevant when an older pool receives a new interior finish.
See how startup is progressing
Startup customers receive service documentation and photographs so they can follow the condition of the pool as the startup process progresses.

What affects startup pricing?
Startup pricing depends on the project and the level of service required.
- New construction vs resurfacing
- Finish type
- Point at which Turtle takes over
- Applicable builder/manufacturer startup requirements
- Service frequency required by the startup plan
- Pool size
- Source-water conditions
- Cartridge-filter loading
- Equipment configuration
- Complexity of the handoff
